Lower School Art (K through Grade 5)
Academic art for grades one through five meets once a week. Students learn different artists and cultures and will use the art elements they learn about, to create their own artwork. In the classroom, students will experiment with a variety of mediums including pencil, oil pastels, watercolor and tempera paints and clay. They see God as Master Creator of everything and the giver of all good things, including our creativity and talents.
Upper School Art (Grade 6- Grade 12)
In grade 6, students participate in art every day for one semester and study art history along with art production, using a variety of art mediums. In grades 7 and 8, students may choose to take 2D art or 3D art. 2D art is drawing and painting and 3D art is working with form, mainly clay.
In high school, students are able to choose the following art electives: Drawing 1 & 2, Painting 1 & 2, Ceramics 1 & 2 and Graphic Arts 1 & 2. In addition (after completing the required prerequisites) students are eligible to be selected (as juniors and seniors) to take an Independent Study course in either Painting, Drawing or Graphic Arts. These Independent Study courses are designed for students that wish to develop their skills and work towards creating portfolios for scholarships to college art or design programs.
ASCI Art Festival
HCA hosted the ACSI art festival from 2008-2013. Westminster Christian has hosted this event in recent years. This year's event will be held in April again. Student artwork was chosen for this event, grades K-12. The festival is a highly anticipated event with artwork from many schools in our region.
