Dear Fifth Grade Student,
Happy summer! I hope you have been having a wonderful time hanging out with your family and friends and enjoying this hot weather. My name is Ginger Oostdyk, and I will be your fifth grade teacher this year at HCA. I am so excited that you will be in my class!
I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, (yes, there really IS a town called Kalamazoo!) but have lived in the Elgin area for over 20 years. I’ve been married for 21 years and have 3 kids: Rachel, who graduated from HCA this past May and will be attending Concordia University Wisconsin in the fall, Jacob, who will be a sophomore this year, and Joshua who will be in 6th grade. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, and serving at church. I love to travel and look forward to sharing some of my adventures with you. My family and I took a trip to the Wisconsin Dells and Door County. While in Door County, we hopped down to Green Bay and took a tour of Lambeau Field, the home of the GREEN BAY PACKERS! Woot woot! What adventures did you have? I can’t wait to hear all about them!
Fifth grade is a special year! It’s the last year you will be in lower school. We will have tons of fun learning about science, influential people in our nation’s history, and the life of Jesus. We will also read lots of fascinating stories, solve challenging math problems, and even go on some field trips! I cannot wait to get started! I hope to see you at our Meet the Teacher Day on August 13th between 10:30 and 11:30. The picnic starts at 11:30. Parents, enclosed is a survey for you to fill out about your student. Please return it to me when you come for Meet the Teacher Day. I am praying for a great year of learning and new friendships!
