Second grade is a year of rich learning where students begin to excel in more independent learning in the classroom. We learn about what godly character is by studying the character traits of many Bible heroes. The students take off in reading with fluency and understanding story elements and this aids in helping us become better writers! In second grade we learn how to write a solid paragraph that incorporates a bold beginning, strong verbs, voice, dialogue, and varied sentence structure. We also get to learn cursive handwriting. Writing is exciting! We build upon many Math skills like money, measuring, time, place-value, and learning how to carry/regroup when adding and subtracting. We end the year by introducing multiplication. We study the beginning of our country by learning about the Separatists, Colonists, Pioneers, and Cowboys. In Science, some of the topics we study include insects, gravity and friction, light and shadows, and the laws of motion. We love seeing how God’s word connects to all subjects as we dive into learning in second grade!
