We are looking forward to all the Homecoming events next week. For the third year in a row, we are hosting our annual Walk-a-Thon for our Kindergarten-Grade 6 students! Below are the details.

FUNDRAISING

A few weeks ago, your student either brought home a fundraising envelope or it was in your family’s folder from parent night. If you are in need on an envelope, we have them at the reception desks as well. Each student has the opportunity to fundraise donations from friends, family, local businesses, and neighbors, following the model from “Jump Rope for Heart”. This is not mandatory, but highly encouraged. Last year, our students raised $67,331 for our HCA Scholarship Fund! The HCA Scholarship fund exists to serve families who qualify, are in financial need, and who desire to give their child the opportunity of Kingdom education. This fund helps around 50+ students to attend HCA every year!

Supporters become walk “sponsors.” See below for more information on this process:

· Sponsorship is a single donation prior to the walk (not based on laps or minutes walked).

· Sponsors may be friends, family, parent’s co-workers/business associates, or anyone that you know. Students should not be walking door-to-door without a parent present.

· Sponsors can also offer an Employee/Company match.

· Out of town sponsors can mail checks to HCA at 1000 N Randall Road, Elgin, IL 60123. Checks should be payable to Harvest Christian Academy with “HCA Walk-a-Thon” in the memo line.

This year, we will count up total dollars raised EVERY DAY. Your student will tell their teacher how much they have raised and the grade level that has raised the most for that day will get a fun, colored Walk-a-Thon wristband.

THE WALK AND THEME DAYS

This year, the Walk-a-Thon will take place each day of the week in PE Class for students in Kindergarten – Grade 6. The students’ goal will be completing as many laps as they can. There will also be fun activities during the Walk-a-Thon laps. The Walk-a-Thon will finish on Friday with fun games in PE class. The goal of the Walk-a-Thon is to collectively walk 75,000 laps throughout the week. The laps are counted for each student. If this goal is met, Mr. Behnken will throw a pizza party for Kindergarten – Grade 6 during their lunch hours.

For each of these days in PE class, we are inviting our K-4 students to dress up according to our themed days. Grades 5 and 6 will wear normal gym uniform. See below for which day your student should wear which item.

Animal Day – Wear your favorite shirt with an animal on it. Students may wear their favorite HCA Lions shirt. Students will be walking their favorite animal “walk.”

Sport’s Day – Wear your favorite sport’s team shirt. Students may walk while bouncing a ball, volleying a balloon, or dribbling a ball.

Super Hero Day – Wear your favorite super hero shirt. Students will channel their inner super hero and walk as fast as they can.
