MATH SUMMER SKILLS
Summer is finally here, and what a successful year we have had! Let the fun begin! However, let’s not forget to add a little mathematics into the summer routine. I am sure you are aware of the dreaded summer learning loss that occurs every year! I have a few suggestions to offer that could minimize the impact.
New this year, Khan Academy has partnered with NWEA (MAP testing). What that means is your child has THEIR VERY OWN “PLAYLIST” of skills that they should work on to improve their math confidence. Teachers have entered new score into your child’s account before the summer, so the kids are ready to go! The kids already know how to find their “playlists”. If not watch the video below.
Website for computer or apps:
The attached website I frequently use as a personal resource. I have met Cassandra at a NCTM conference. Visit singaporemathsource.com and click on Resources. She has an extensive list of websites and apps that are currently available. The one I highly recommend is the thinking blocks app. It is a great app for model drawing.
Math 4 You Summer Camp:
The last four Mondays before school starts we offer this camp to prep for returning to school. Each week teachers work on a different topic to get them ready to come back to school! We have great review from kids and parents that MATH 4 YOU is a “gentle way” to get the kids to start thinking about school!” Class size limited to 10. Offered for fall grades 3- 9. Register here.
Have a blessed summer!
